Body Dysmorphia

What exactly is body dysmorphia and why is it sweeping the nation? Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a mental disorder where an individual is obsessed by their personal body image and consider themselves to be unattractive as to undergo multiple cosmetic surgeries.

BDD can be caused by stress, anxiety and emotional depression which can lead individual to social withdraw and isolation.

Phillips, MD, director of the Body Dysmorphic Disorder Program at Rhode Island Hospital, says that "people with the disorder look normal, and are often considered beautiful. But they don’t see themselves that way. Instead, they obsess about their perceived flaw. It is very distressing and can sometimes make them housebound"

A famous celebrity that was diagnosed with the disorder was Michael Jackson
